The island of Gran Canaria is one of the world’s most romantic locations, and it’s easy to see why! Not only are there countless beaches, but the climate is amazing all year round. If you’re travelling with a loved one to Gran Canaria, there will be so many wonderful and exciting things to experience that you won’t know where to start.

When it comes to romantic sites on the island, you’ll be spoilt for choice, so don’t forget to bring your camera either! This year, Gran Canaria is set to be a very popular destination, so let’s take a look at some of the best places to visit whilst holidaying on the island.

La Baranda Camel Safari

The La Baranda Camel Safari Park is certainly one of the most romantic spots in all of Gran Canaria, simply because of the wonderful views you’ll get sitting high up on the camels. As the sun goes down, you’ll be taken around this beautiful park, with its lush gardens, avocado and palm trees and water pools to keep the camels hydrated.

The park is home to over 70 camels, and even if you don’t want to ride one, you can get special tours around the park to see how these gracious animals live making it quite the alternative activity if you’re looking for something different on your honeymoon. You should try booking your flights to Gran Canaria outside of the holiday season too, to help bring down those huge wedding costs.

Castillo de la Fortaleza

If you’re looking for architecture on your romantic trip to Gran Canaria, then make sure you visit Castillo de la Fortaleza. Built 50 years ago, but looking much older, this miniature castle stands out on the sun-kissed Mediterranean landscape, and as the night sky descends upon the island, it is truly a romantic location.

Once home to the famous writer, artist and archaeologist Vicente Sanchez Arana, this castle museum offers sixteen rooms reflecting the vast Renaissance interests the artist entertained over the years. Historical Guanche artefacts were found in nearby caves, and they take prime position in the castle’s main exhibit. Although this castle can feel a little eerie at times, there’s also a romantic atmosphere created by the wonderful passions lining the walls.

Dunas de Maspalomas

These spectacular sand dunes were given national park status in 1994, not only attraction more visitors, but also creating a warm, friendly and romantic location for couples looking to spend time together. The dunes look like they’ve never been walked on, however that’s because of the high winds at night which levels the sand. Do keep to the designated walking trails however, so not to be disrespectful.

The balcony of the Hotel Riu Palace Maspalomas, situated in the park itself, offers the best view of the dunes and magical surrounding gardens, so be sure to make your way up to one of the many balconies. If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, why not take a camel tour of the dunes with your loved one!

The Plaza Promenade

Although this area is very popular with tourists and can get a little crowded at times, it’s the evening when the romance kicks in here. Not only do bands play great music throughout the night, but most restaurants offer terraces that look out to sea, meaning you can enjoy your meal in a wonderful romantic setting.
